Lisa McRae: Resourcing Lead
What does your role entail?
As the Resourcing Lead for Thalia I am responsible for the attraction strategy for all permanent and temporary hires. I actively recruit in the permanent market, manage the relationship with our temporary labour provider Hays, manage our IR35 risk and focus on ensuring the recruitment process is inclusive.
What attracted you to the waste treatment industry?
I was fairly naïve about the waste industry prior to joining Thalia and you might say I 'fell' into waste! I was truly unaware of the processes that took place on each of the plants to turn waste into energy, I was blown away when I received my first site tour, the technology is incredible!
Are you passionate about working in waste? If yes why?
I feel so proud to work for a Waste Treatment business where our teams are turning everyday rubbish into energy. I have 2 small children and it's hard not to think about the impact that we as humans are having on the environment and the impact it will have on their futures. I love telling prospective candidates about what we do and seeing and hearing their enthusiasm when the full scope of the operation comes to life!
Why do you like working for Thalia?
My role is essentially to sell the business to prospective candidates and attract the best talent. I wouldn’t be able to do that on a daily basis if I wasn't passionate about what we are trying to achieve. Every day we turn general waste into electricity and drastically reduce the amount of waste that is sent to landfill. It is also important that the ethics and values of the business ethics match with my personal ethics and values. Finally, I really like the people that I work with. We have a great People and Communications team where we support and enable each another to provide the best possible service to our people and future employees.
How would you describe the culture at Thalia?
The people I work with are passionate. I haven't come across one person who isn't proud of what we achieve as a business. I work across all 4 of our sites and I am always warmly welcomed by the on-site teams. Everyone is approachable and respectful which I really appreciate.
